The volunteer firefighters of Ringing Hill Fire Company are thankful for the EMS practitioners who serve alongside them at emergency scenes and are celebrating them during National EMS Week, May 17-23, 2020. The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) lead annual EMS Week activities.
Always taking place in the third full week of May, this year’s theme is “Ready Today. Preparing for Tomorrow.” to honor the medical personnel who provide lifesaving services every day, impacting patients, families and communities. The theme was developed some time ago, but is even more meaningful as the EMS community serves on the frontlines during the COVID-19 crisis. To celebrate EMS Week, NAEMT, ACEPT and partner associations will abide by national and local guidelines for the well being of the nation. However, it is more important now more than ever before to honor EMS professionals who are selfless and provide quality care to citizens.
In the EMS community, the best care is provided when first responders work together. Firefighters and fire police work alongside EMS providers at the scenes of car accidents, fires and rescue calls. As a team, they help others through the worst incidents of their lives, and provide a sense of security and relief in the chaos. Some of volunteers of Ringing Hill Fire Company became inspired by the EMS providers or wanted to have more knowledge on emergency scenes, and started careers in the emergency-services field.
Assistant Chief Derek Dry would not work in the EMS field as a paramedic if it weren’t for Ringing Hill providing him with the training and classes he needed. “Volunteering has bettered me in order to thrive in my professional career as an EMS provider in my local community,” said Dry.
